0064 Pumpkin Day Edit Crop

All the stars aligned this last Sunday, and I was able to spend a day with the families of our four children. Everyone has been so very careful not to make me sick and sadly that meant they had to stay away from me. That has been a very hard part of this journey. Thankfully technology gave me some opportunities to see them and talk to them. Oh, how I have missed them.

Sunday, no one was sick, and we were safe staying outside. Probably one of the best days I have had in six months. It was glorious. The weather was beautiful. No wind. Sunshine. A Sunday afternoon with nothing to do but pick pumpkins and be together. The eight grandchildren were excited to be together with their cousins running around on our farm. Papa had grown a very large number of pumpkins, and they were laying in the patch waiting to be gathered. Everyone pitched in picking up the pumpkins and placing them into the bucket of the tractor. Then they tumbled out into the dump trailer. They were quickly snatched up by the pumpkin sorters. By color or by size, I am not sure what that was all about, but they seemed to have some sort of system. When the last of them were placed into the trailer, it was time to choose which ones would go home with them for painting or Jackolanterns. The simple things. They played in a big pile of dirt, and they left behind a trail of half gnawed carrots and apples. It was just the best day ever for me. 

Did we plant way too many pumpkins? Why yes. Yes, we did.

Will we plant too many pumpkins next year? Most certainly we will.
